Mech. It's MUCH narrower (front to back) than I expected, although I triple checked the measurements, all because it's so soft. It just fits a large water bottle with a wristband, a microfiber cloth for glasses, a glasses case, a bottle of B&BW lotion, a cell phone and keys. There is no security clasp in the main compartment which is just disappointing. And the front pocket protection feature is downright confusing and cumbersome. I have several Travelon bags and this is my least favorite. I do, but reluctantly. An extra inch in all sizes would do wonders and fix a zipper's dubious security.
