Review on ASUS X570 Plus Motherboard paired with VG248QG Monitor – A Dynamic Duo for High Performance Gaming and Productivity by Alan Sessoms

Reliable hardware, great UEFI, rubbish software

I bought this because I've used Asus motherboards before and really liked them. This board shines in the same way as my previous boards, but falls short in a few other respects. The board is pretty easy to install. Some of the screw holes toward the I/O ports were difficult to reach with a screwdriver. Certainly not impossible, but you may have to play with it a bit to get the screws to seat properly. In fact, the biggest issue I had was the location of the RAM. I have a 212 Evo CPU cooler and it almost covers the first RAM slot. I got it working, but RAM with large heatsinks can be an issue. Landing the ram in the first place was also quite difficult. There are LEDs on the motherboard that indicate problems in POST. So if the RAM LED is on, this could be your problem. Like most Asus boards, this one has a fantastic UEFI. It's easy to use, regardless of your skill level. When you have no idea what you're doing, you can literally push a button and it will overclock everything for you. However, enthusiasts have all the tools they need to customize their computers. The main reason I hesitate to recommend this board is the terrible Asus RGB software. Let me upfront by saying I didn't buy this for RGB. It was just an added bonus. However, Asus' software renders RGB almost unusable. First, this is all very confusing as the Aura Sync and Armory Crate software contain RGB components. I've tried both and neither allows me to control the lights on the motherboard. BTW, I also connected my 212 Evo RGB to the RGB header on the motherboard and that never worked either. To make matters worse, the software actually rendered my system unusable. Asus packages caused a critical bug that caused Windows 10 to blue screen for 10 minutes after each boot. It didn't stop until I used a combination of Revo and Ccleaner to completely remove all traces of Asus packages. Now I'm left with two options: disable RGB entirely from the beautiful UEFI, which seems useless, or just let it cycle through colors, which is annoying. Overall, I would probably give the mainboard about 4.5 stars if it only had no RGB at all. However, given the presence of both built-in LEDs and an RGB connector, I was quite disappointed. If you don't care about RGB at all and just turn off the lights, then you'll love this board. If you are indifferent or familiar with bike lights, you will surely like this board. If this is your first build or you're an RGB fanatic, I'd steer clear.
