I have just received this pencil case 168 I bought it for my Koh-i-noor, Bruynzeel, Marco Renior (black case) and some spare colored pencils from Faber Castell. I had no problem fitting the pencil under the elastics fit, they all have enough space and NONE was too tight. Understand if you put a product under the elastic and it is too tight, then it is not suitable for the item size, the product, the manufacturing process or the seller's sale, and it would be a mistake on their part to try to sell something when they have such a problem due to irresponsible customers who put rubber bands on that cannot recover yes I can see that from your photos moreover it is in this one or any other case requires the zippers to be unzipped to open one of the sections. This is not a design issue, it is the user's fault. No event of this nature will last long if you don't. NO faulty designs, NO poorly sewn pen holders, NO production control issues. The only problems are the abuse this item takes once in your possession. One of the biggest problems I see with any shopping site is that people don't want to pay for a luxury item and then expect the purchases to match the performance of an expensive luxury item.
