First of all - it's NOT black. It is a very dark dark gray metallic with a semi-gloss finish rather than a matte finish. The overall look is great and it's solid quality. However, when the protective sticker was carefully removed, most of the molding came off with it. The support team was friendly and helpful and offered to either replace it or give us a $17 discount. We took a discount and then disassembled the lantern and painted the metal matte black. This is exactly what we wanted now after a little effort and time.
