This thermometer has its advantages and disadvantages. First, yes, it's a little fiddly to use, but reading the manual will help you become a little more familiar with the buttons. Second, my thermometer was having a rough time. to choose between forehead mode and ear mode, but then I noticed that the forehead cap wasn't fully on. Once I put the cap on properly, it no longer toggles back and forth. Third, the thermometer gives me different readings every time I use it. I just didn't know if I was doing something wrong or not. Fourth, the thermometer memory mode comes in handy when someone is sick and you have to pull yourself up a few times on the last temperature reading. Finally, I found it difficult to try to deal with the environmental regime. All in all, I don't think this is a bad buy, reading the operating instructions is very important to understand how it works. There are only 2 buttons on the item. I've been able to get successful readings ranging from 97.7 to 98.2. So I totally understand that I don't have a fever.
