Versatility in Length

I decided to purchase sliding spacers because I thought it would be easier to just measure and cut to the length I wanted. I was right. Rather than adding and adding and subtracting until I get the right length like I would have to do with twisted squares. They are semi-soft, so they are easy to cut. I used a cheap plastic caliper to measure the depth from the face of the outlet to the new surface or wall level and estimated an extra 1/8 inch. I read somewhere that I had to add 1/8" for the bezel, which doesn't really make sense since the bushing protrudes by design. BUT I added 1/8" and found it better because if you tighten the screws , the softness of the gasket becomes harder, making the installation more rigid and making it strong. My setup was over tile and I measured the top and bottom spacers separately as the tile was a bit uneven. This would be more difficult with spacers that can be moved sideways. Trimming the gaskets with scissors gave an uneven cut at first, so I rotated the gasket in the blades of the scissors as I cut and found the cut was flatter. I used blue plastic sockets and the screws that came with the spacers fit fine. The original screws were too short to be reused. I made two boxes out of one gasket so theoretically use and cut as needed.
