Review on Originals Union Jack Dr. Martens 1460 8 Eye Lace Up Boot by John Clarey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great shoes that didn't need to be broken in!

I was in NYC for a half marathon in March and needed a pair of boots for the cool, rainy and possibly snowy NYC weather. Living in a tropical climate, I knew I needed a versatile boot that could be worn in milder weather or just to be worn in style; and when it got too cold in New York, I could fix it by wearing a pair of Merino wool socks. I have long seen how cute Dr. Martin boots look, put on or worn, but then again for shoes I could wear 6 days a year I wasn't sure I would be so over budget. But after checking the sizes of women's boots on their website I realized I could fit in a youth size so I went to Revain and found these at youth prices 😁. What bothered me the most at this point was that all of the Doc Marteens in the reviews mentioned a painful but rewarding break in the process for them as a race was coming up. Luckily, my desire to look good won me over and I crossed my fingers and bought them. I'm SO glad I did! I wore it every day in New York, got my race number and walked around town with it on day one and felt incredibly comfortable all day. I wore them the next day and the next and the next... All I can say is that I have my boots ❤️. For reference, I have slim legs; Since I fall out half a size I went up the size instead of down and it helped. Also, I used merino mid-cushion socks and my feet were warm enough in 30+ degree winds. The toe box felt appropriate but not wavy; The insole is very soft, as are the insides. I chose not to lace all the way up but to the fifth hole and then do it like a ballerina and lace up the front which not only looks good but also gives my ankle a bit of freedom. Side zips slide easily and stay securely closed when lifted. And the sole was durable enough to walk the streets, bumpy sidewalks, the many flights of stairs in and out of the subway, and didn't make any squeezing noises indoors. To top it off, my legs never hurt, which was a major concern for anticipating my half marathon (which I ran) with no leg pain or post-race. These boots were very gentle on my sore feet after my run and made me enjoy the city more a few days after. I am very happy with my decision. I could probably go down a size which would look nicer in slightly smaller boots but that would require a breaking in which I couldn't afford. Marteens (use EU size for better understanding) Treat yourself to this great shoe at a very reasonable price. You will not be disappointed.
