I have 16.5 for my 10 gallon tank. I figured a 10" wouldn't illuminate the tank enough. I was right, the 16.5" strip illuminates every inch of the tank and doesn't seem to bother my Beta even on the brightest settings. The suction cups work great on glass , but not so well on a plastic lid, so just grab some superglue if you plan on sticking it to a plastic lid and just let it dry before putting the lid back on.
