I just received them yesterday so not sure if they are new but the shank of the ring itself was very difficult to detach from the back of the earring. It took me a few minutes and there was a little prick in my finger to open it! However, I could save myself the trouble by opening them with a pen or something. I've had designer earrings with names that worked the same way and just needed "breaking in", so I'm hoping that's the case. Also, they are of pretty good quality and don't smell like cheap metal like Forever21 earrings.
