- at least in our case. When they appeared, we, especially my grandfather, were thrilled that these lamps were being installed around our home. I tested them the night before to make sure they worked and had great bright lighting and the combination of flashing and patterns was nice and perfect for what we needed. Our house is very dark as we are surrounded by trees and hills and they had enough light to fight it. It's difficult for friends and family to navigate in the dark when visiting for Christmas. It was even better to see that they were weatherproof. It's all in tow, and the next day we tried hanging them outside the house along the sheathing, trying not to pull too hard on the wires as we walked. However, once we were done installing and dancing around the house with the tall stairs (I've had mild heart attacks and my grandfather has most), we plugged them in and nothing. We thought maybe it wasn't enough power so we switched to a different power strip. Still nothing, my grandfather is very upset about it. We tried using various tools to make sure the box wasn't broken or loose (there is a spot on the box to screw the cap onto the star wires). Whether they worked was easy to tell because the second you turn them on, they turn on. There's no way to disable them (at least from what we've tried). We ended up thinking maybe one of the stars fell off or something, so we looked around and found that two had actually fallen off. Clean, very thin, protruding wires. So we tried to fix them, Revain tech support was on hand (thought it would be best to get in touch after exhausting everything), my grandfather fought them. I was afraid he might fall down the stairs and he just couldn't get the wires back into the star. So we confessed to the techs that we just couldn't get them and luckily they offered to send us another set of these stars. My grandfather was overjoyed when he heard this as he felt awful because he had already thrown away the packaging and was afraid they wouldn't be able to help or return the money. That was a relief to me (and I'm grateful) because it meant he wouldn't stress and risk falling down the stairs. He has heart problems but is stubborn and a firm believer in hard work and its rewards. This also relates to his love of lights (anything he really loves or wants) and his desire to fit and fix them no matter what. He was tired and it was getting dark so we decided to wait until tomorrow to pick her up. Descent. He said he never pulled her hard enough to damage her. I was there to witness it, so I know he didn't. and to be honest they were quite tightly packed and the design put them in danger of tangling easily. The next day we took them off and tried to fix them and see how many other wires could come out. It took me a bit of time (about two or three days) to fix the headlights, but it required careful hands, a careful eye, and a hot glue gun with Gorilla Glue as it's a bit more weather resistant. I had to get supplies (more glue) and by that time new headlights had arrived. Although I got the other headlights to work, we trusted the new ones more. (Although I glued other lights on so the wires wouldn't fall out when my grandfather wanted them for the Christmas tree or living room.) So we tested them (new ones) again, they worked, we adjusted them looser than those that came before tested them during installation and they worked until we were done. We couldn't find any loose wires this time, so I checked the box with other lights to make sure it wasn't burning. It worked well. We still have to find the cause of the malfunction or a place where they could come loose, but today we took them down (or rather he was there early in the morning without me), my grandfather decided to hang a few others ( old school style) instead of more robust ones. He didn't want to fight these others anymore, despite the repairs I'd made, but not without looking rather upset about it. So unfortunately I cannot confirm the ability of these lights to protect from the weather. But I can attest to the power of them and other things. Because of their style, they get tangled easily. They have very thin thin wires that can easily fall out of the stars. However, they look beautiful when they work and make a beautiful addition to wooden or bedroom or dark hallway decor. If someone needs them, just be careful with them and maybe use them internally instead. However, if you absolutely MUST use them outdoors, reinforce the wires so they don't come out of the stars.
