Remember that when you buy this item you are NOT buying an electric blanket. The electric blanket is used for sleeping, so you need to turn it off for at least 8 hours, not four hours. This is a blanket and for that purpose it is excellent. My mother is 85 and has very little fat which means she catches cold very easily. Also, she belongs to the previous generation where nothing is ever wasted and heating a house for one person is a waste of time for her. So I bought her this electric blanket for her couch to use while watching TV during the day or lounging when winter is upon us. I showed her how to turn everything off in 4 hours so her electric bills don't skyrocket like she fears if she forgets to turn it off. It's perfect for her. It's soft, emits enough heat at a mid-rise to keep you warm, and just the right size for your couch. She likes to drape it over her shoulders and uses it almost like a scarf to keep her shoulders and neck warm where her joints hurt. Remember - drop the blanket.
