I bought this USB adapter to power my internal floppy drive I needed to buy some sort of adapter that plugs into the old school PATA pins plugged into the back of the floppy disk drive. to a small circuit board that sat between the back of the floppy drive and plugged into an internal USB port (hence the reason I bought that Y-adapter). I didn't use this adapter because the board wasn't soldered very well so I returned it but kept this adapter. A single end of this USB adapter plugs directly into an empty JUSP header on the motherboard (a few "pins" are sticking out of the motherboard) and then somehow connects to two regular USB 2.0 sockets. If your tower has external USB ports, these are usually also connected directly to the mainboard. I still use the USB 2.0 ports to connect USB keyboards, mice and even some speakers that are powered from the available USB 2.0 port (at least to date 3 USB 2.0 ports are possible). So when I build or buy computers, seeing these ports is a plus. It's nice to be able to power a modest pair of speakers from a USB port rather than worrying about opening up an available outlet on a power strip. I found these 6 inch extension cords that make it easy to use any outlet available on the surge protector and while the plug is quite large for those of you who might be interested. This cable is well designed and made. It's a little long but I found it easy to roll up the excess at the bottom of the new assembly and secure with a small zip tie. The use cases are pretty much endless - one being that you can boot from an available internal USB device in a locked tower with a specialized Linux distribution installed, as well as the Windows OS installed on internal hard drives. For example if I am working on an old laptop or tower for someone who can just replace the old hard drive with an SSD and back up certain files like some photos, music, movies and documents. and throw everything else away, I can easily do this on one of my computers, replace their drive, install Windows 10 (or whatever), and once the device ships to their location, they set up their local account settings themselves. and once they're done, I can restore their files to the default MUSIC, IMAGES, etc. folders. I insist that they go through the files I recovered and give them the option of leaving the old corrupted drive as is or securely erasing them, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to days or more depending on the erasure algorithm used. Reliable hard drive cleaning takes time and money to have a dedicated hard drive cleaning pc within minutes or days. With this Y-adapter I can effectively securely erase drives and lock down the computer I'm using to erase the drive and even set a BIOS password that can prevent an attacker or "fake friend" from opening a specialized Linux distribution boot can cause damage. Precautions must be taken when using this cable - at the very least, lock the back of your tower and set a BIOS password that will simply prompt you for the provided password before your computer actually boots your Windows operating system. this cable for the reason that I work in computer technology alongside other professions and part-time jobs. I find this to be an invaluable tool for any PC professional who sees the benefits of the above and doesn't mind setting a BIOS password on a single computer. If you have 2 computers in your home or apartment, one of them can be shared with a guest user account or even a separate account and the other can be an older DDR2-based desktop computer with enough power and RAM, for example, has Windows 2012/2016 /2019 installed AND can be used to boot from an internal LINUX distribution. BE CAREFUL WHEN USING THIS SPECIFIC SCENARIO BECAUSE THE FILES ON YOUR INTERNAL DISK/DRIVES/RAID VOLUME MAY BE CORRUPTED IF USING SPECIALIZED LINUX DISTRIBUTORS! I tend not to mess with internal hard drives in a scenario like this and just wipe the drive over the weekend or at a time when I don't need to use the server for anything else. Everything about this cable suits me - even its length. As I said, as a system builder I have seen many types of clamps, cable ties, cable management strips and even used tape. It's nice to route the end of the cable to the perfect termination point that connects perfectly to a male USB device. That being said, USB 3.0 ports on the motherboard look different than USB 2.0, as do other connection points. I still use a USB 2.0 port regularly and find that at least 4 ports is enough - at least when configured correctly. There is simply not enough space on laptops and other mini devices or the developers have decided to use the latest USB specs which are backwards compatible with USB specs 1,2,3,3.x etc. This cable is a great addition to any PC professional or a knowledgeable specialist in building/upgrading/configuring the system. last thought BRAVO!
