I would buy this outfit based on your child's current size in girls clothing, so if your child normally wears a size 7 I would choose a size 7/8. The outfit is really cute. The skirt has a purple lining that is a full skirt that provides coverage and pieces of rainbow tulle are sewn to the waistband with a tie at the bottom. I washed the item in a laundry bag in cold water on a delicates cycle and hung it out to dry when it came out of the wash. Not exactly sure what happens when it dries, but the tulle pieces no longer line up exactly, so as they wear out, the purple petticoat streaks become visible. As far as I can tell the t-shirt is not cotton, I think it's more like microfiber so removing stains is not an easy task. I think the t-shirt is true to size, but if you have a child who even has a small bump, you definitely need to go up, unless you want a tighter fit on the bump (it's more like a tight fit). . It was a birthday outfit for a six year old girl who normally wears size 7 pants and a size 7/8 shirt because of her long torso. The shirt fit but was a bit tight, if I had chosen the size based on age it would have been too small. Overall, she adored the outfit and loved the headband. I was hoping she might wear it again next year as it's a size 7/8 but judging by the size I don't think that will happen. Although for $15 it would be nice to have a cute outfit for the birthday girl.
