I was able to use the braid the first night it arrived. I fried some chicken and it worked perfectly. I've usually used tongs, which all too often resulted in the breadcrumbs falling off when flipped. Not so with this foot-length gem! I was a little annoyed that it wasn't magnetic so I was able to store it on a magnetic wall shelf along with my knives. But that also means it's actually more durable as it's made from a nickel alloy. Another customer complained that the tip straightened with use and then broke off. The reviewer did not say what he or she wanted to address. Indian maybe? LAUGH OUT LOUD! I then attempted to lift a 4-pound bone-in rib roast and the braid barely rose under the weight. In fact, the entire shaft has almost never bent. This test was passed without errors. Incidentally, stainless steel does NOT straighten, as it is very brittle and difficult to break with normal use. I highly recommend purchasing and using this wonderful kitchen utensil. Now I wonder how I ever managed without one. I'm buying a few more, one more for myself, for indoor and outdoor use, and as gifts for friends and family. 5 very big stars! EDIT December 27, 2020: A pigtail hook is also great for retrieving cucumbers, beets, mushrooms, olives, and other foods from a jar.
