I have been using TDK and another brand for 14 years. I ended up having to order some new tapes as the old tapes lost everything that was on the tape which affected tracking and the image rolled and lost sync. When I buy a batch of new tapes, I practice each one by fast-forwarding to the end and then rewinding to the beginning before writing anything on them. Since the records have been kept, who knows how long this exercise will help. I've never had a bad cassette before. We have about 30 cassettes that we've been recording for 14 years and we just bought them plus 6 from another manufacturer, all from Revain. We use tapes in Panasonic and Sony VCRs. We use a wet-type head cleaner about every 3 months.
