Review on ThinOptics Reading Glasses Universal Strength by Laura Washington

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Customer service is virtually non-existent and SLOW. Avoid being ignored if you don't like it.

UPDATE 4 - 08/28/18 I received the glasses as promised but they were not the same power. I wear 1.5 and they sent me 1.0. I emailed them about this a week ago but haven't heard from them yet. It seems that poor communication is the company's main product. If they had given me the opportunity to speak directly to Mona, the only person who both cared about her and seemed to know what she was doing, then perhaps I could have found a satisfactory solution. . Instead I'm forced to write to their generic support email address and wait for a pause to tell me something useless like they always do. I wish I had never upped the star rating because it was just false hope. I received better service from a now defunct seller offering fake glasses than I get from a real company. Nothing. ThinOptics nothing. I can't wait for competitors to show up so I can buy their products. I'm done with this corporate slag. UPDATE 3 - 8/16/2018 I received an email from "Mona" using ThinOptics to let me know that the seller, Muchmuch, is selling counterfeit glasses. The window was closed by Revain. Mona sent me two pairs of original ThinOptics to try out. I upgraded my rating from 1 star to 3 for promising news. The score will be adjusted after I receive the glasses and try them for a few weeks. To be honest, it didn't take long to get to this point via email. I provided full order details when posting this question to ThinOptics. For every working "Mona" helpdesk, there are a dozen idiots who either don't know or don't care. Unfortunately, I was dealing with an idiot for most of this ordeal. ThinOptics would do well to eliminate the ballast that deters customers. I was done with that until Mona showed up. Had she or someone as knowledgeable and caring as her been involved from the start I would have had a nice customer experience instead of arguing for over two weeks with the person making the bricks look smart. UPDATE 2 - 08/15/2018 When I challenged ThinOptics for their answer (discussed in the first update below) they started dropping their claims. They then offered me a free replacement which while good does not fix the faulty design that causes every pair sold to be scratched. FEW! No way, no way, never. That won't happen, ThinOptics. You got my last cent and I will never use your products again. I advise everyone to stay away from these charlatans unless you like cheap products with flawed design, poor customer service and lying when trying to get help. The content of this answer caused me to deduct another star from my rating. It was clear that the person who replied didn't even read my message as most of their replies told me how to clean lenses. They claim that eyeglass frames are designed to protect them from body scratches, but I and every ThinOptics owner know that's not true. The case continues to scratch my lenses and although they are only 1 month and 1 day old they are almost too scratched to continue using. Please choose something else! This is a fantastic idea poorly executed. I had hope until their sluggish "customer support" sent back a formulaic answer that simply repeated how to care for lenses. I've worn glasses in one form or another for over 50 years and I know how to care for polycarbonate lenses. Mine have never been hit by anything other than the case and they keep getting more and more scratched. I had 6 engineers at work looking at it (without telling them what I thought was causing the scratches) and they all agreed that the hard plastic case was to blame. On any given day, I'll take the word of six licensed engineers and my own observations of an indifferent customer service team. These engineers used science to make their conclusions, and science deals with facts, not speculation. ------------- While overall I liked these glasses, I should have given them 2 stars for their tendency to scratch when stored in the same bag they are meant to be stored in. I've attached a photo of me after 13 days of ridiculously good care. I never touched the lenses or wiped the lenses, just blew the dust off (and you can see the dust in the photo!). I want to give them 5 stars but because of that I just can't. I hope you take my comments at face value. These should be my honest opinions and conclusions after almost 2 weeks. I don't want to embarrass anyone, just giving an honest review. Also, I don't endorse these glasses, but I got good marks in many areas. PROS: They are relatively affordable. I paid $14.44 for these +1.50 readers. The idea behind these glasses is simple yet ingenious. These are ultra-thin reading glasses that gently but firmly hug the nose. They're advertised as being thinner than nickel, and they are - by an appreciable degree. tl:dr You are THIN. The bridge is a very flexible, "springy" wire that is encased in a transparent plastic sheath. They fold/fold the way you want and spring back into shape. Don't do this as you will only smear and/or scratch the lenses. Also, I assume you are sane and would never do this, but you do. When it comes to weight and comfort, it's easy to forget you're even wearing glasses - that's how comfortable they are. They are so light that you hardly feel them. I took them to work and didn't take them off most of the day because they can sit low enough on the nose not to interfere with distance vision and still provide a comfortable and unobtrusive reading area. The stability on the bridge of the nose is great. I have a very large, thin nose and bridge, and I have very oily skin, especially my nose. I work outdoors and even in sweaty weather these glasses fit snugly around my thin, greasy nose. (Sorry for the mental image.) The only way I've gotten them to move is to "wrinkle" their nose like they do when you smile. So stay fierce and they won't move, slide or possibly fall. I used the included residue-free adhesive to stick the case to the back of my phone when traveling, where it stayed glued as if it were part of the phone. myself. Back at home, I removed the case and tape with relative ease. I currently keep the strip between two sheets of wax paper and keep it in a ziplock plastic bag, which is great for future storage. (I took mine off because I use a wireless charger at home and the extra thickness prevented it from working.) I can put the case in my back pocket and literally forget it's there, but it's easy to reach. CONS: Only one complaint really - they scratch easily and the very case they came in (shown in their picture for glasses) is the one that scratches the most! The lenses are advertised as sturdy, and I'm sure they are, but the material of the case, combined with the sharp edges of the case-thick case, scratched my pair within the first 24 hours. The edges need to be smoothed out and the body REALLY needs some padding. Really, seriously now. I'll go for a thicker case if it's lined with something that's less likely to scratch the lenses. The design and functionality of this idea is too good to be spoiled by a scratched case. I know you want everything to be flimsy, but if that comes at the expense of your product retaining its full performance potential, people will stop buying it. I don't want to stop buying them, but I also don't want to buy a pair every 2-4 weeks so I don't have to go through a web of scratches. ThinOptics, please consider redesigning this case. I like these glasses but the scratches on them bother me. This is a great little product but some small but important changes need to be made. I've owned this pair for 13 days now and have never touched the lenses.
