It's my fault for not reading the full description. Hidden in the Q&A section is the claim that USB ports are not controlled by the application. That's the only reason I bought this. I ended up using one of the outlets to power the USB device instead of the USB ports. I got what I wanted, but instead I could just use a regular app-controlled outlet. Especially since this one only has one outlet while others have up to six.
