Great deal on a great product

We have recently found and adopted an elderly cat who loves to climb so we wanted to get her a scratching post so she has plenty of places to hang out. Found this one and saw used as an option rather than new and risked a lot. It was a great decision as he was in great shape, mated with no problems and our new cat loved it! The storage room is a bit small if you have bigger cats. Our tree is quite small so it fits her. Update: Miss Kitty LOVES her scratching post. She's also gained weight now that she has a home and steady food, and the tree is as strong as ever. Her favorite thing is the hammock - she uses it every day to sleep or to look out the window! I saw some negative reviews but found it very strong for cats up to 10lbs. Update #2: We've since adopted another cat - a slim but tall and younger boy, and I've found that this particular tree doesn't work as well on him as it does on a little girl. He is much more active, even with only 3 legs, and weighs around 10 pounds. As he likes to squeeze into small spaces and boxes the size of the nest isn't really an issue (albeit cramped) rather the next one won't support his weight as he hops and leaps. down and it pulled down and eventually loosened and I had to go through it all and tighten it all back up and put it back in the room just with Miss Kitty. I ended up buying a very strong three-nest tree from Overstock that was very similar to the solid, sturdy, carpeted trees I found at Petsmart and Petco. The only thing I had to add is to screw the top bushing onto the tallest post, it's very strong and works great for that. So I would say that the usefulness of this product (at least for me) is limited to our small adult cat. Also, none of them wanted to use the closet. I'm not changing the rating because this was purchased for a smaller, older cat and she loves it, but would like to update for those with larger, more active or multi-cat families.

Pros
  • Hammock has a metal rim for extra support
Cons
  • Out of style
