This rating is based on use in cold, but not freezing, weather. What I like about this product: 1) Convenience and ease of use. The ear bags can be put on quickly and easily. It is important to order the correct size. Use the size chart and measure your ears to find the right size. I am an adult female and ordered on Wednesday. Mine fit true to size. If you wear "dangle" earrings, remove them before putting on the ear pouches. Smaller earrings (studs) do not need to be removed as the entire earlobe fits in the pocket. The pouches are shaped like your ear, so it is important to place the pouch correctly on each ear. Simply slip the pouch over your ear, pull straight down and tuck your earlobe into the ear pouch if needed. I then wrap my fingers tightly around the ear pouch, pressing it against my head, and then rocking it back and forth to make sure it's secure. I've worn the earbuds in high winds and had no issues with them falling off. 2) Portable, compact, low profile. The earbuds are small and can be easily stored in the bright red case when not in use. This low profile allows the case to easily fit in a pocket, coat, fanny pack or small purse. The red bag is easy to find and easy to store. These low-profile earbuds eliminate the bulky head or neck strap that comes with headphones. 3) Gender neutral. I have short hair and my ears are very sensitive to cold air. The ear bags worked great during our milder North Carolina winters. They're warm, but I'm not sure they'll be enough for very cold weather for long periods of time. Ear muffs are perfect for moderately cold weather, but if I were to be in cold weather for any length of time I would use a full earmuff or hat and scarf. The ear cushions are so flat that they can also be used under headphones. Also, I think I would use headphones rather than ear bags when doing an active sport like skiing. Ear pouches are perfect for walking, running, light exercise or when you need coverage for your ears but don't want to use a large earbud. I think of them the same way I think of my winter coats - a lighter coat when the temperature is cold and a much heavier coat when the temperature is cold and I plan to be outside for a longer period of time.
