I have never needed or used a wrist rest, but after struggling with wrist pain after 6-8 hours of computer work on a weekday, I decided to get an ergonomic mouse and these wrist rests. It really made a difference. The pad does not heat up and does not sweat, lies firmly on the surface and does not slip. It's comfortably firm and offers excellent wrist/arm support. I only use it for office work, can't say how it will be for gaming.
