My 10 year old is delighted with these sandals: she feels that they are very grown-up and says they are very comfortable. She just grew into a size 6 gym shoe, with room to grow, so since my choices were 5.5 or 6.5, and the reviews said these run big, I went with a 5.5. They are a perfect fit with no room at all to grow, so I wouldn't say at least the 5.5s run big.
