I have 100 feet of 16 gauge and there's probably room for another 25 feet. The coil is big enough. The handle and frame are metal, but the spool is plastic. Having said that, it's really not a long-term all-weather solution as I think plastic will have issues with extreme heat or cold. Had I known the spool was plastic I probably would have bought a similar model from Revain for around $22. This cost $30. Overall I'm happy, I've had several reels in the past and this is by far the best despite my complaints about the plastic. It's very easy to set up and wind up, and the four plugs are extremely useful. It is important to note that you must use at least 14 gauge if using this with more than one heavy tool at a time.
