Be careful! in Dogs

I have a 12 year old German Shepherd who has very severe arthritis in his hind legs. To make it easier for her to walk around our house, which is mostly made of wood, we bought her these non-slip socks. They are very easy to put on and when brand new they work great. I think they are human hospital slippers, but dogs. She immediately became much more confident getting up and walking, and when we took her off, she glided across the floor quickly. We knew they worked great so we left them on her almost 24 hours a day. I mean why not? We only put her on her hindquarters, so she always carried two, and we kept two clean. When we swapped out her dirty socks for new ones this weekend, we noticed horrible ulcers on her leg. It looks like the piece of plastic holding the Velcro was rubbed into her skin so hard that it caused these sores. Needless to say we immediately threw them away and bought another brand that didn't have a piece of plastic to damage them. Be careful when using them, how tightly you put them on and how long they stay on your pet without checking them. We had no idea there was a problem until we found out. Also, we've had them for about a month now, and after washing and drying them fairly frequently, most of the non-slip material is gone. Finally, if you don't keep your dog's nails very short, they will put holes in them. We ended up having to throw one out because of its fingernail hole. If you are looking for non-slip boots for your dog, you should buy another product.
