No assembly required, just take it out of the box and remove the protective material for shipping and you've got a nice comfortable stool to sit on. I wanted to paint the frame a different color but the stainless steel frame looks better than I thought. I bought two of these. They hide well under the counter. The price was very reasonable, although the stool is very sturdy I don't think the stitching on the cushion will last long. But I can change it if necessary. I am very happy with the purchase
