Review on Ergodyne Chill Its 6685 Evaporative Cooling by Daryl Barton

although the fit was pretty good medium would have been better

As a carpenter who is outside most of the year I am always looking for a product or tool that will make my life easier so when i saw this vest in one of my build magazines i thought it was worth a try but unfortunately it ended up being sent back. I got a large as the widest part of my chest was 39 inches and the average size was 38 inches or less, although the size was pretty good, a medium would have been better. The vest itself is much shorter than the regular reflective vest you wear and sat above the belly button which I think is pretty short. Here are the issues I had and how I tested them. I used the vest in a new tank top for 6 days at 80's to mid 90's, it was damp too. I wore the vest for a half day and a half without it, alternating between morning and afternoon to get a good feel for it. I filled the vest in the morning with the chilled water I had in the fridge for the night and followed the rest of the instructions. The vest felt comfortably cool for an hour or two, but after that it got warm and sticky, which I avoided and is the reason I bought this vest instead of the regular vest that you soak in water. Finally, this vest made me hotter, stickier, and more uncomfortable than just working in a regular shirt. In general, I also had concerns about the durability of the vest, the material is quite thin and it will eventually come into contact with a nail or something and tear, which would normally not be a problem with a shirt, but since the outside and middle layer keep water in me , I'm pretty sure it will render the vest useless. Finally, this vest is overpriced and I don't mind that it stays cool for 2-3 days as advertised and that its length is too short. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to answer

Pros
  • EASY ACTIVATION - fill vest with 13oz - 20oz / 400ml - 600ml of water
Cons
  • I will add later
