I used alcohol on the surface, to remove any residue, after cleaning well. As long as you allow the surface to dry completely, before applying, you can't ask for a better security strip! Unlike mats with the suction cups, these stay secure and clean easily! Plus they are transparent, and won't clash with any colors!I am extremely pleased with these, as the mat caused my grown child to slip and fall, hitting her shoulder and jaw on a ceramic tub side! (I tried these before taking a sledge hammer to that ceramic tub, and am so thankful they perform as described!)
