When we were in Rome it was very hot and I wanted to be able to wear shorts. However, when visiting churches, there is a dress code that requires you to cover your knees. My daughter and I would buy these scarves and tie them around the handles of our handbags until we needed them, and then we would wrap them around ourselves like sarongs as we walked through churches. Because they were so big, they worked well for this purpose. However, they are not very durable. After 3 days I already had a small hole in one. It's not very noticeable and I will continue to use it.
