Beadsmith Coil Cutter - extremely useful when used correctly

I was a bit suspicious of this tool when I ordered it because of the one bad review and it was actually a bit difficult to use at first. However, I persevered and after hours of trying, I found a few tricks to make the most of it. I'll share what I've learned for those who are also considering this spiral cutting tool: a) While holding the tool, stretch your index finger toward the gripping portion of the pliers or you will feel pain in your wrist; b) try to do it to keep the spools as close to the size of the gripping part of the tool as possible - I have found that if the spools are too high cutting the spools above the tool can cause them to shift the coil bends depending on the gauge of the wire; c) Don't cut the whole helix at once (my rule of thumb is 3-4 adapter rings at a time) but cut a few at a time, then use the pause to re-lube the saw blade and slide the rest up the coil into the cutter - not only does this prolong the life of your saw blades, but pushing the spool up ensures the cut is always level and the cutting angle never reaches the point where you touch the pliers or jump rings, and that new jump rings don't bind or fail. d) when sawing, make long, smooth strokes - don't press down on the saw and use the full length of the saw - this will greatly extend the life of your saw blades; e) Be patient, don't rush - you're already saving time. Once you learn how to use the tool, cutting jump rings will become much easier and the task will take much less time. I have found the tool to work as advertised and has significantly speeded up my email work. My only complaint is that I wish the grips were a little more comfortable/ergonomic. The two most important things I learned were, to lubricate the saw blades well (use a liquid soap such as dish soap and apply it to the edges of the blade with a cotton swab) and constantly adjust the position of the saw. So spool so that it sits high in the trap chamber - as it turns out, the first makes it possible to do the second. Take your time and let the saw cut without pressure. As a side note, you can also use this tool to cut bridge rings larger than the advertised 9mm. I was able to cut rings up to 15mm without any problems. I hope this information will be useful for other buyers who want to buy this instrument. Take your time and let the saw cut without pressure. Not what I hoped for.
