Great reference book especially for beginners and even adults

I can't say enough good things about this book. I'm brand new to sewing. My 9 year old daughter asked for a sewing machine and I hesitated as I don't know how to use it myself. She was very adamant that she had a sewing machine. To be honest I left this question unanswered for almost a year to make sure she was genuinely interested in sewing and I was intimidated by the idea of using a sewing machine. Well she insisted she needed a sewing machine and after much research I bought a sewing machine and this book. I know, that you probably didn't need all this background information, but I wanted you to know where did I come from in terms of using this particular book? This has been the most informative and helpful guide I have used to date on how to use and care for a sewing machine. I particularly like that a computer controlled sewing machine is used as a reference. All other links use standard sewing machines and this became overwhelming and confusing for me. Everything in this book is explained in simple terms. Yes, childish language, but for me it was the best way to teach myself and my daughter. The language is by no means condescending, but clear and concise. such as materials, tools, sewing machine parts and sewing basics. Particularly pleased with the section on sewing basics as it includes measurements of the body and correction of mistakes. The designs themselves are cute, simple, and practical. These include a basic pillow, headband, backpack decorations, and pool cover. These are just a few of the 16 projects, and they progress from simple to more complex. My daughter is so eager to do all the projects. In fact, I'm excited myself to start working on projects.

Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
