Our dog (boxer/pit) had this for a few months and we had to make it a part of her outfit as she has a compulsive problem with licking her back toes to the BONE! Despite treatment we have to keep the area dry to heal. There were times when we only left to return to a bloody foot with only a thin layer of skin on the fingertips. We tried several muzzles. She could get her tongue through them. We tried the tiny slotted version and she couldn't get her tongue through, but she figured it would work and make it worse if she used the end of the snout and rubbed it against her leg. I didn't want to give her those cones because I know how uncomfortable they are, but for now we've tried everything we can think of. and reopens wounds. I thought this pillow would be our salvation, and at first it seemed so. She loves it very much as a sleep aid. We have the right sizes for them and Jack makes sure of that. She's flexible enough to work around that and get on her toes. We are so excited and the vet can't do anything but treat her irritation. Physically, she's fine, with no injuries or arthritis for a vet to see, and antihistamines aren't working (last stronghold is a complete diet change). But we just want her to stay away from him so he has time to heal. This pillow is a good idea and might work for many dogs but not our box pit. She is very resourceful and will find a way to get what she wants. Even if we try to divert her with treats, the moment we leave or she is absent from our presence, she will find an opportunity. We've even tried more modern Elizabethton colors with Velcro. She can take it off. I wish they wore Elizabethton collars so the dog collar can just slip through like this pillow does. Looks like we need to give her a big pubic cone. It's either that or we'll order a really big size that's too big for her. I spend so much money to find a way to keep her from killing her own leg. It got to the point where we even considered amputation. The pillow was supposed to help me keep the area clean and dry long enough for it to actually heal, but it didn't. So unfortunately I can't give a good rating. The point of this is that your dog can't reach certain licking spots and has no problem at all.
