I love love love popcorn! But packaged microwave popcorn is so-so. I was very excited to try this Whirley Pop popcorn maker. I was a bit intimidated at first, but it's actually so easy and quick to use. When I first got it I washed it, dried it and "seasoned" which is simply pouring some oil in a pan and then heating it very high for 20 seconds. Remove from heat and allow to cool, then rub the pan lightly, leaving a trace of oil. Now to make the popcorn, I simply added 3 tablespoons of grapeseed oil to the pan and added a packet. Popcorn (which ended up being half a cup with a bunch) and sprinkled with some sea salt. (I didn't use a flavored pouch just because I wanted to know exactly what I was putting in it.) I then increased the heat. to medium high. I set the kitchen timer to 3 minutes because the instructions say it will take that long. I started whipping the pen and kept stirring all the time. It took about a minute for the clapping to start and probably after another 2 1/2 minutes the clapping had slowed to almost zero and the crank was very difficult to turn. Only about 3-1/2 minutes. I immediately removed the pan from the stove and opened one side. In fact, it was filled to the brim, the perfect amount of corn kernels. I immediately dumped the popcorn into a bowl, added some melted butter and a little more salt. It was really good but I think maybe the popcorn wasn't very fresh because it was a bit chewy. I'm making a new batch with fresh Orville kernels and following the same instructions. (Except this time I used 3 tablespoons real butter instead of butter, so I didn't have to add more butter at the end.) This time the timing was the same, and again with a bunch of 1/2 cup seeds, he filled the pot just right. But this time the popcorn was much better and tastier! The pan is very easy to clean. It has faded a bit after several uses but still works great. Like most online shoppers, I read reviews from others to decide if I should try a product. I always do my best to help by honestly describing my purchases. [.] Thank you for reading.
