Super functional but too bad

I hope this product has a basic mp3 player without internet access that I could give to my kids along with a bluetooth speaker. I wanted them to be able to listen to music or audiobooks throughout the house, that's all. No internet, no games, no distractions. At first glance, this device looks like it hit the mark. I was able to download and play a lot of MP3s on my device. I was able to connect to the bluetooth speaker. So on the one hand I'm satisfied. However, nobody really believes that this inexpensive little device is like a tiny iPhone. Let me highlight some of the caveats: - The screen is adequate but has pretty poor viewing angles and is certainly not as clear as most modern smartphones. - Poorly designed user interface. When viewing files, the filename is truncated at the end of a (very short) line of text. - The built-in speaker is rather weak. You can hear your music, but only if you are within a few meters. The data transfer from the PC is very slow. I copied only a few GB of music to the device for several hours. The screen refreshes very slowly, which is most noticeable when trying to scroll through a long list. It doesn't really "scroll" smoothly like you're used to. Instead, it's awkwardly redrawn with the next page of data. Pretty uncomfortable. Part of the navigation is based on non-intuitive swipe gestures. For example, to go back one level in a menu, swipe right. There is nothing in the interface that you can imagine, you just have to figure it out through trial and error. These are just the highlights. To be honest, it really does everything it claims to be, it's just a clunky, pretty miserable experience. Another reviewer noted that his model would not charge or turn on. Apparently mine worked fine. Do you really need to hold down the power button for a few seconds to turn it on, so maybe they just missed it? Another reviewer said that the built-in 16GB was completely full. That's not my experience either. I was able to copy several GB of music and audio books without any problems.
