I'm a medium size (yes I ordered a large but I have a medium) and it fits my 10 year old well so I would say the size is true to size. She loves it. It's silky, stretchy and moves great. It fits perfectly under her lacrosse hat to keep her warm and looking sporty and stylish on the field. A boy could probably wear it as a regular shirt to school, but for a girl it's best as an underlayer. She says it's so light it hardly feels like it's on. It's not tight and if you try to wear it tight it may be itchy. I had my 13 year old (usually plus size) try it on and it fits perfectly and looks like it will work but the stitching is itchy. So I think it should be worn a little looser like a shirt and not as underwear.
