Black as the night

First things first. Protect anything you don't want to stain. Put on gloves, a mask (which I stupidly didn't do), old clothes, wrap the counters in plastic wrap (maybe the floors too). Have Clorox wipes handy when working on the stove; Use a stainless steel/enamel/glass pan; Thermometer (I used a glass candy thermometer attached to the side of the pot). When I opened the paint it looked rusty even though the tag says Jet Black #626. Don't let that fool you. As soon as the powder got into the water, it turned black. pitch black. Black as the abyss, black. Demon eyes, black. Seriously, damn black. The directions I printed out for stovetop acid stains mentioned leaving items in the dye bath for 30 minutes (or longer) to achieve a deep, rich color. The items to be colored were only in the bath for 5 minutes when they had already absorbed quite a bit of color - they were an inky black color - which gave me a clear idea of how well this product works. This first "test" is an indication of how this product works, then I have so many big plans for the future.
