While I was sleeping I heard a random popping sound. It turned out that my cornice fell off. This is the FIFTH time these command strips have let me down. In the past year four paintings have fallen off my walls, one frame shattered and another dented the wall on the way down. This time we've been let down by those curtain rods that have only been up since February. I bought three holders, each costing five pounds. The curtain rod weighs 2.3 pounds and the curtains together weigh just under 3 pounds. So these three Command shadow holders should have done their job without any problems. Instead, the middle one came loose, tearing the wall apart. I live in an apartment and decided to use command bars to avoid drilling holes. This damaged the walls more than if I just drilled holes. And I used them properly and carefully, cleaning the walls with isopropyl alcohol and letting the areas dry before applying and holding in place for a minute. When the pictures started falling off the walls I thought it might be due to the extreme heat living in Southern California. But I had the air conditioner on while I slept. It wasn't hot here. Saying I'm angry and disappointed would mean how I'm feeling right now. And the folks at 3M should know that it's not reliable. Pay attention to usage tips that say do not hang over the bed. Why did it happen? Because they know those strips don't keep things secure on the walls.
