Works almost as well as one of those original soft rubber iPad cases that you get when you buy a new iPad from Apple. When I bought my iPad 4th gen a few years ago I saved up and did it, I didn't get the original case for it like I did for other iPads. At the time I bought a relatively expensive cover ($50) from Amazon with good carving that I thought would work well. This went on for 2-3 years, but then the iPad kept falling out of the case and made it unusable. This $10 has a lot of good features, the iPad slides in cleanly. What is different? The material feels firmer, slightly plastic. The hinge part is made of a nalgahide-like material (canvas-like plastic). Compared to the original iPad cover hinge, which is the same soft, comfortable to the touch rubber. So if you want to protect this iPad with a thin case and don't mind those few variations, then this will work.
