Review on 🎡 Altec Lansing iM9 inMotion Mobile Speaker Dock for iPod (Black): Dynamic Sound On-the-Go! by Robin Evans

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great iPod speaker, possibly discontinued

I have had one of these for about a year and a half and am very happy with its performance. I paid about [.] dollars for it on Revain and now (8/2009) it is sold on Revain by several third party vendors for about [.] dollars. So it seems that the IM9 may no longer be made and that a couple of dodgy sellers are luring potential buyers for the last few units they have in stock. If you want one go straight to the Altec Lansing website where the IM9 is currently (21st August 2009) available for only $[.]:[.]A few months ago I accidentally lost my IM9 (in my backpack). dropped for about 3 feet to the concrete floor in my garage. It landed face down, so the front pocket containing the power supply hit the ground first. The impact broke the fork blades on the power pack rendering it unusable, but the unit still worked fine (on batteries). There's a small dent in one of the speaker grilles where the power adapter meets the front of the unit, but this didn't affect performance or sound quality in any way. It took some perseverance (several emails back and forth with photo attachments), but Altec Lansing replaced the entire power supply for free, even though the damage was caused by me and my unit's one-year warranty had long expired. At first they just sent me a plug module (at my request) but since I bought the unit the design of the power supply has changed so they sent me a whole new power supply and plug assembly. This means I now have a spare cartridge in case I break another one! In the future I will definitely remove the plug module from the power supply before putting it in my backpack. It would be nice if the plugs folded into an adapter like many chargers/adapters do these days, especially for mobile/portable electronics, but that's another issue.
