Serious disappointment

To be honest this door is a piece of crap for the price they charge for it. For $720 this thing should be perfect, but it's actually nowhere near. Many flaws. This product needs a little more research and development before it earns its astronomical price tag. First let me say that I love the door itself as well as the plexiglass pivot. That's a good idea. However, I don't like that the size I got (the largest) has single plexi glass instead of the double glass that comes with the other models. Most of the problems I have are frame related. During the installation, I found that the template provided was incorrect. There are a few extra cutouts around the door spring covers and latch mechanism that I cut out to fit the door. Again, the $720 thing should be perfect. After attaching the door, I found that it really didn't fit the opening very well. There are places where the difference between the cutout and the outside edge of the frame can be 1/4 inch or less. If the cutout is not very clean, there is a high probability that the "edge" of the frame will not be able to completely cover the cutout. To complicate matters further, and this is probably the biggest design flaw, the frame isn't strong enough. Thin thin aluminum. And the 4 mounting screws are tiny mounting screws with inferior rivets. The problem is that it takes some force to safely "compress" the inner frame, door, and outer frame. If the frame material were strong enough, the necessary force could be applied for a snug and secure fit. However, due to the thin frame material and tiny mounting screws, you won't be able to tighten it enough. The inner aluminum frame and outer aluminum strips are highly deformed and do not allow such a tight "sandwich" action. Installable parts remain that have obvious gaps and potential sources of heat loss. This unit requires remodeling with a thick, durable plastic frame held securely together with 12-16 large screws. It must have a built-in rubber gasket that ensures a proper seal between the frame and the door. All in all I am disappointed with this device. It will work for me but that's mainly because I don't want to cause myself any further inconvenience by returning it, buying something else, buying a new door as I've now destroyed my original door to make a hole for this unit to cut. I think the manufacturer urgently needs to reconsider the cost and design of their product. You might even rethink your entire business practices.
