The part of this adapter that actually fits into the cigarette lighter socket (before the end sticks out) seems a little shorter than average. It may have been designed to better fit typical dashboards, but I've found that at least a few aftermarket cigarette lighter splitters have a shaft too deep for the adapter's center pin to make proper contact internally. With such sockets, the adapter never gets power and therefore looks dead - the LED is off, it is not charging. While it works great with the factory sockets on the cars I tested (Honda and Subaru) since cigarette lighter socket sizes are not well standardized, there may be some cars on the market with a socket that is too deep to accommodate this adapter . Just something to be aware of. Otherwise everything works fine. I was able to draw 2.4A from one outlet (charging the iPad) and 1.5A from the other (a large 5V fan) and the adapter didn't get noticeably warm. The metal ring around its flared end is purely decorative and is not connected to the negative/ground contact.
