The brace is advertised for basketball but can be used for other sports, I personally use it for performances when I go to the local gym and even for kickboxing. It is very important to choose the right foot size. Why? Because it has to fit exactly, otherwise it can slip off when you move it. The elastic bands on the sides and bottom help with support, but the size of the bandage is what matters most. It's also better to use barefoot, other reviews say it can be worn with socks but I can't imagine it can be worn with a sock. Wearing a sock can affect the blood circulation in the foot and even add the aspect of slipping because if you put on an ankle brace with a sock without shoes, you could slip. The only minor issue is that the edge of the brace can chafe/cut/itch your leg, but that's easy to ignore when using a splint.
