Review on Enhanced Stability Black Push Bar for RV Screen Door - Camco 43976 - Guards Against Torn Screens by Juan Mcallen

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works, with a little help.

Three stars overall. It works, but it took some effort and could be a lot better. The end rails on this one are wider than the space available on my Lippert brand mesh door. As a result, pilot holes had to be carefully drilled several times. Unfortunately, the supplied screws are very soft. The first screw broke when I mounted the first corner of the rail. I drilled it through (with a big drill bit) and quickly snapped the second screw. Obviously the aluminum door frame is tougher than what they use for the screws. I then threw away all the Camco bolts and used my own stainless steel bolts. After the pusher was installed, it came loose and dangled at the junction of the smaller and larger tubes, allowing for size adjustment. To solve this problem I lowered the push bar back down and then added screws to the back of each top and bottom rail between the rail and the screen itself. Once the rails were secure, I reinstalled the push rod. There is enough space behind the grille to grab it easily, so you can close the screen without trying to pull the latch handle. With the bolts replaced and additional bolts for fixed adjustment, the push rod works very well. This helps reinforce the screen's frame structure and provides a convenient holding point to push or pull the screen when it's not latched. The only final criticism of the plank is that the edges on the ends of the large guides are a little sharp - probably not cut, but tapping with a file would have made it more comfortable. Unfortunately, this must be done BEFORE the coating is applied. I'll buy another one anyway, but I know what I need to do to make it work effectively, which isn't really out of the box.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and chunky
