It can easily spill as the top of the shaker slides off.

The lid is placed on the bottom of the shaker. You must be very careful when picking it up. Twice I spilled a full shaker on the kitchen floor because the lid came off. I would not recommend this product. I bought a shaker that has the top slide into the base which solved this problem.
