Bought this iron in April 2016. Worked well for about a year then started spitting clothes and after a few months the steam mode started turning off after a few seconds of use. (I wasn't very happy with either one but tried to keep using it as I love the brand.) Then this week the plate got so hot it burned the fabric I was ironing. And today it overheated, it smelled like burning electricity and smoke came out. Let's hope this was just an isolated incident. As a seamstress I have always used and loved Hamilton Beach irons. Not sure what went wrong with that. My previous Hamilton Beach irons lasted much longer than this one and didn't have the issues that this model had.
