I'm an avid listener of Audible audiobooks - I use Sandisk players. I've had several of these over the past few years and overall I'm very happy with their performance. I bought the Clip Sport to replace the Clip Zip which has failed (after a few years) making it unusable. When I opened up the Clip Sport package I was blown away by the new look and size - slightly larger than the Clip Zip but overall in the same style. The top on/off button was gone - replaced by a yellow center button - which was a good thing. So it's more user friendly. I connected the device to my computer - the computer recognized it - no problem - I transferred several mp3 files. So far, so good. The drive is connected to my computer as the letter "I". What was my disappointment when I went to the Audible manager and found that the player is not activated and no files are transferred to it. Audible Manager didn't recognize the player and literally nothing I did fixed the issue. I have contacted Audible support 3 times and each time have received instructions on possible solutions to this problem. Nothing they suggested worked. I waste a lot of time to no avail. Finally, I went to the Sandisk website to see what they had to say. I found a post dealing with this issue. The solution was as simple as changing the drive letter from "I" to "B". I will post steps on how to do this after this review. When someone plugs drives and devices into their computer, the computer mounts them with different letters, in descending alphabetical order for each subsequent drive or device plugged into the computer. People have many drives and devices these days, so it's not uncommon to see drive letters L, M, N, or even more on a given system. However, Audible Manager is limited in terms of the drive letters it can recognize. I don't know how far down in the alphabet the Audible software "knows", but of course drive letter B works. The letter B was traditionally reserved for 3.5-inch drives that nobody else uses. These disks are obsolete, so chances are the letter B is not assigned on your computer. Typically, a modern computer starts with C for its main hard drive and works its way down the alphabet. After I changed the Sport Clip's drive letter to B, the problem was solved and everything worked as usual after that. This measure works just as well for the Clip Jam if you bought that particular model. The forum member on the Sandisk website who posted this solution did it for Clip Jam. I, in turn, adapted it to Clip Sport. Otherwise, the Clip Sport is fine and works perfectly. It is true, that this model no longer has a voice recorder (like in Clip Zip), but how many people actually use or need this feature? If yes, then this model is not for you. As for bookmarks, I don't see a problem on that front. Reviewers report that audio tracks play randomly, but my audiobooks pick up where I left off - at least they do with Audible books. I have yet to try an MP3 audiobook device. I have downloaded many of these books and some to my device. If there are issues with bookmarking non-audible audiobooks, I'll post an add-on. In the settings there is a function that enables or disables random playback (shuffle). Perhaps this is the problem of these reviewers who have a problem with bookmarks. You need to turn off shuffle. edit - no problem to bookmark audiobooks without listening to them. It's good. How to change the drive letter for your Clip Sport1. Connect your device to computer2. Open the Control Panel (from the Start menu) and select Administrative Tools and then Computer Management3. Select "Disk Management" in the left panel4. One of the drives is Clip Sport - right click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Path". 5. Select the current drive letter and click "Change"6. Assign drive letter "B” to your Sport Clip7. Also exit and close Audible Manager8. Reopen Audible Manager. Everything should be fine now.
