We bought a house that had GU24 lights in the bathroom. They were equipped with spiral fluorescent tubes that turned brown when overheated. I found that I would have to drive half an hour to get to the nearest store that sold this type of bulb and the price per bulb was much higher than the average base models. We ordered twelve of these for lighting fixtures and now we can use medium cap LED bulbs which can be found cheaply at just about any grocery store or even dollar stores. Without these adapters I would probably be changing fittings and spending a lot of money that could have been used elsewhere in our budget. You're forcing the bulb to protrude farther from the base, so make sure you don't mind the end of the bulb being about an inch more, or just be prepared to use a slightly different shaped bulb to buy. It didn't matter for our application. If you have recessed lighting and are using bulbs with flat ends that sit flush with the ceiling, they may not fit.
