I bought this product to kill weeds without using poison. This product is very suitable for weed control at all stages of weed growth. It uses superheated steam and pins or funnels to deliver the steam. In a day or two, the weeds will definitely be gone, like I said. The product gets a 3-star rating due to several issues. The vapor takes a lot longer than I would like to heat up at first. Once heated, you'll likely steam 3-5 weeds before having to pause for 2-3 minutes for them to heat back up to the red zone (required for steam production). Due to frequent stops for long heating times, it takes almost an hour to use the entire tank. With one tank I was able to get a 6 foot by 3 foot area with about 1-3 weeds per 5 square inches. It's not that much weed. I also tried it in a very dense 2 foot weed area near the foundation with a hopper attachment, this is where the product really shines, killing huge clumps of weeds with no problem. It also worked incredibly well in pavement and sidewalk cracks, just make sure you use a hopper and not cleats for cement patches as there's no room for stakes. The final reason for my 3 star rating is the effect on surrounding plants. No matter what method/nozzle you use, this product sprays and the spray gets very close to the plants. I ended up accidentally damaging a young hydrangea by uprooting a weed a few inches from it. The excess spray is incredibly hot and you can easily injure yourself if you get it on your feet, so be careful. Also, be sure to follow the safety instructions on when and how to open the lid of the water tank. This device works by superheating the water which pressurizes the chamber (like your radiator) and the cap can and will fly off and injure you if you open it contrary to the instructions. Overall I'm glad I bought the device, it's a lot slower than hand weeding but for those with mobility issues it makes weeding possible again. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to garden but has arthritis or fibromyalgia.
