Review on 🐠 Enhanced MarineLand LED Aquarium Light Hood with Day & Night Lighting by Maribel Hernandez

Satisfactory but lacks key features

I have a 20 gallon tank with an old two piece hood and lighting system. When the blub failed, I decided to go for something fancier with LED lighting. This product fits perfectly in my aquarium and has appropriate cut outs for installing the filter and heater. The light itself is surprisingly bright and perfect for my tank size. The additional "moonlight" is a nice touch. However, there are some usability issues that I hadn't thought of and immediately overlooked when switching to this hood and lighting system. The biggest problem is that there is no separate door for feeding, cleaning and attaching an automatic feeder during the holidays. In order to get to the reservoir, the entire hood, including the lighting, has to be lifted. For example, fish feeding is now done with ambient light, just like cleaning an aquarium. I didn't realize how much I lack good lighting for these tasks. Also, there is no way to hang an automatic feeder, which is important at times like vacations. This would require lifting the entire hood and leaving it in that position, which also means the tank is not illuminated. Far from ideal. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't mind a two piece design that makes the above easier. And the last problem that many seem to face and I also ran into it. The lighting system is very difficult to install. Aligning the lighting with tabs is easy and obvious, but don't snap at the front. I tried it every day during my morning feeding and finally got it on the third day. If you don't latch it, it will come out when you lift the hood, which according to the above you will be doing at least daily. Many resort to the use of black electrical tape. However, you should know that it does indeed snap, but you'll have to play around with it and put a lot of effort into it. Take care of the plastic as best you can as the entire hood is very thin. It can be done, but it's a lot more painful than it should be. Once locked, it will not move. Good luck with it!

Cons
