My daughter (9) LOVES this backpack and so do I! It's cute, but quirky/complicated enough that she doesn't "grow out of it" like the silly cartoons. It's also MUCH better material and quality. My only concern is that the plastic outer shell may crack after constant use or rough handling, but I'm hoping it will last more than a year (unlike cheap traditional kids' backpacks). My daughter also likes that there are about 7 of them. bags for things. The innermost pocket is slightly smaller compared to traditional backpacks due to more pockets and zippered compartments inside.
