Review on πŸ“± ZAGG Rugged Book - Durable Case and Bluetooth Keyboard for iPad Mini 5 (7.9") - Charcoal: Ultimate Protection and Enhanced Typing Experience by Glenn Cartwright

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The backlit keyboard is gone. But overall I like this case

I originally bought this case for my 1st gen iPad mini many years ago. I still have this mini AND this case. I used an old case on my iPad mini 5 while waiting for this case. I didn't think it quite fit, but it served its purpose. As the new Mini got so much better I used the case a lot more and finally (after a few years of use) it started to show some signs of wear. Needless to say, when I saw this case for less than $45 I jumped. on it because if I could get the same case but better suited for my new Mini I had to do it. The case came, I changed it immediately and put my 1st gen back in (it still works for streaming video) and my 5th gen in a new case. I immediately noticed that in the new case the volume rockers were open while in the old case they were closed. This was good as it reduced the likelihood of debris entering the fuselage. So that was the first hit. The only thing that really disappointed me was the removal of the backlit keyboard. Although I know I shouldn't use my iPad in the dark that much. The backlight was similar to RGB and came in handy when the lighting was different, not to mention super cool! What the hell? I understand the cost and all, but before the discount, this keyboard was still expensive and the technology is outdated at this point. So how much are you really saving on overall production? While it's nice to have a new case, I might try swapping out the keyboard while I still have my backlight! Frustrated boys! It was the only thing that made the case special - not to mention covering the rockers (although I believe this was done to avoid redesigning the case for minor iPad mini modifications).

Pros
  • don't waste too much time
Cons
  • too stupid
