No problem installing right out of the box. All you have to do is attach a small clip to the bottom that keeps your laptop (or my book in my case) from sliding into your lap when you tilt the top. It's easy to set up and feels pretty solid. I like a little drawer to put my pen (or bookmark) in when I'm reading or not taking notes. Very easy to set up, but also easy to point backwards. It would easily slide under a taller sofa (I have an armchair and it comes down to the floor without a gap) or under a bed. I can easily slide it between my bed and my nightstand when not in use.
